The main Dota 2 client has once again seen a patch this week, skipping the test process and launching the Dota 2 store and workshop. You can see the full changelog here.

Front End Changes
This week’s patch enables the in game store, backpack, loadout and workshop system that has been worked on for a number of months now.
UI Updates
A number of updates to the UI this week with the arrival of the Dota store.
The Dota Store
The Dota store allows you to buy individual items, couriers, tools or bundles. Even though the store has just launched nearly all of the items have been contributed by players, whom will gain profits from their items sold on the store (basically identical to how the TF2 workshop/store system is setup).
The tools section allows you buy a number of different tools, such as the name and description tags that have been in TF2 for a while now.
You can also buy “Battle Bonuses” which are basically boosters that will increase the rate in which your Battle Points. Battle Points are earned at the end of matches and go towards levelling up your profile, upon levelling up you’ll always receive an item. There’s also a chance that an item will drop at the end of a match as well.
If a player in your game is using a Battle Bonus you’ll also be granted a bonus for playing in the same game as him/her, this bonus is stackable with your own booster.
The meat of the store is the bundles section, here’s where the named item sets are sold at a discounted price (vs buying each item individually).
You can either hover over the items to see a description/more details or by clicking on it, which will take you to a full page for that specific item which will show if it is part of any item sets.
Clicking on a bundle will also bring up a full item page, showing a preview of what the hero looks like wearing all of the items in the bundle.
The Dota Store – Backpack
The backpack is where all of your items and tools are stored.
The Dota Store – Loadout
The loadout page uses the same card system from the hero selection screen. The same filters can be used as well as the typing shortcuts etc.
Selecting a heroes` card and opening up the customisation page will allow you to use items in his/her’s loadout slots, for example Nature’s Prophet has a number of different slots, for replacing his staff, beard, bracers, shoulders etc.
It is also used to equip “Non-Hero Items” use as action items (gifts), custom announcers and custom couriers.
Selecting a loadout slot will display a 3×3 grid displaying the items that are equippable in that slot.
The “You have new items” dialogue that TF2 players will be familiar with is also in Dota 2. Also the strange weapon attribute is already in as well for items that are unboxed from the treasure chests.
The Dota Store – Workshop
The Dota 2 workshop is now live, the interface has remained the same since I last covered it.
Hero Selector UI
The new hero selector UI has also been updated to include a loadout editor before the match starts.
Scoreboard UI
At the end game scoreboard you’ll now see your Battle Level and the amount of Battle Points you’ve been rewarded. At the bottom of the scoreboard you’ll see item drops/loots rewarded to different players.
Visual Updates
When you’re playing in a game with someone who has a Battle Booster activated you’ll see a notification informing you that the Battle Points for this match will be increased by 15%, also a model of the Battle Booster icon will appear above all of the player’s heads.
Hero Updates
We’ve more tweaks for one of the existing heroes again in this week’s patch.
Ogre Magi’s Hero Update
Ogre Magi has received some updated materials and a new minimap icon to reflect the changes made to his materials. ![]()

Unreleased Particle Models
Phantom Assassin now has a model for her dagger for use in her particles.

Unused Cosmetic Items & Misc Tools
There are a number of cosmetic item models that are currently not being used or implement, there’s no confirmation whether these will be used in the future but I’d figured you guys would want to see them any way.
Bloodseeker’s Cosmetic Items
Bloodseeker has another full item set that is unused, I’m not sure what’s it is called the models are all named under a “Redrim” tag.

Broodmother’s Cosmetic Items
Broodmother has a couple “Battle Armour” models, which overlap on top of her current model.

Juggernaut’s Cosmetic Items
Juggernaut also has an unused set, referred to as “Nomad”.

Kunkka’s Cosmetic Items
Kunkka’s alternative heads (beardless and zombie) now have their textures.
Beardless Kunkka:

Zombie Kunkka:

Nature’s Prophet’s Cosmetic Items
Looks like NP has done a bit of time travelling, he already has his Santa hat and beard ready to go.

Omniknight’s Cosmetic Items
Omniknight has an unused hammer, referred to as the “Dingus Hammer”.

Pudge’s Cosmetic Items
Pudge has an unused Skeleton Hook.
“item_name”: “Dragonclaw Hook”,
“item_description”: “The claw from a black dragon’s left toe. The only piece of the beast that survived an encounter with Pudge’s voracious hunger.”

Warlock’s Cosmetic Items
Warlock has an unused alternative model for his Ultimate’s Golem, which makes sense seeing as he has an ability loadout slot for his ultimate. (Can’t wait to see those community made alternative golems)
It’s referred to as a Four Legged Demon:

Windrunner’s Cosmetic Items
Windrunner’s hood/cape combo returns into the files, I have covered this before. I’m surprised this wasn’t available at the store launch, can’t wait to buy this one.

Witch Doctor’s Cosmetic Items
Witch Doctor has a Bone Mace, obviously it is not finished/to the proper scale yet.

“Rare” Items
A few of the item models have a “rare” version, which look different from their “normal” model. A lot of these aren’t implemented yet.
Tidehunter’s Normal “Pirate Slayer’s Tricorn”:

Tidehunter’s Rare ”Pirate Slayer’s Tricorn” (Isn’t used in the game yet):

Tidehunter’s Normal “Excavator’s Treasure”:

Tidehunter’s Rare “Excavator’s Decorated Treasure” (This is already in the game and is dropping for people):

Axe’s Rare “Molten Helm” (No normal version – Isn’t used in game yet):

Sven’s Rare “Commander’s Flameguard Variant” (This is in the game/drop only – The sword is not included):

Misc Tools
There is an image for a “generic” chest in the files but is not present in the item schema, probably there for use in a future patch.

The “Dota 2 Early Access Pass” has now been renamed to “Dota 2 Invite”. The purpose of this bundle is for people not in the beta yet, which makes sense seeing as what is limiting Valve right now is their server capacity, the deployment, although large, is just not large enough for an open beta yet so doing something like this allows for a small, steady stream of new users into the game.
“item_name”: “Dota 2 Invite”,
“item_description”: “Get immediate access to Dota 2 and start playing right away! Or get an extra key to trade to a friend.\r\n\t\tThis bundle includes a Mighty Boar courier, and a full set of items for Sven, Axe, and Witch Doctor. Use the Dota 2 Invite from your Steam inventory to unlock the game.”
